Gretlein Cycles are handmade in Portland, Oregon with the blood, sweat and love of one man...  My name is Seth D. Von Gretlein. I have lived on and around bicycles for most of my life. Although I have been riding bicycles as long as I can remember,  I discovered my love of bicycle touring at the age of twelve, when my father took me on my first bicycle tour starting just outside of Seattle, WA, and ending two weeks later in Jackson Hole, WY.  After that I was hooked! I have continued to tour since; be it three months from Tijuana, Mexico to Vancouver, BC or a quick weekend trip thirty miles away. I love it all. Over the years I have raced bicycles on and off road as well as  on the velodrome and bmx track and worked for a short time as a courier. For the past 12 years I have worked as a bicycle mechanic in San Diego, California and Portland, Oregon.

Gretlein Cycles was born after attending the Yamaguchi Frame Building School in Rifle, Colorado. There I learned the basics of frame design and construction using hand tools and a torch as well as techniques to finish fillet brazed and lugged joints and ultimately create a beautiful functional bicycle. I have continued to build on that initial foundation through research, the experience of other builders around me, and of course good old building as much as possible.

My passion for cycling in all forms fuels my drive to create beautiful, unique and functional, custom bicycles made specifically for you with the adventures you intend as my inspiration.

Ride hard, do good.
